Mizium

AMOREPACIFIC Jul 20, 2014
Summary
Amorepacific Technical Center is a place that creates beauty through creative thinking. MIZIUM, the second Amorepacific research building completed in 2010, holds two meanings: “a place (um) of wisdom (ji) in pursuit of beauty (mi)” and “pioneering the unknown (miji).” A total of 50 billion KRW was invested to complete the 26,000m² (gross floor area) building, which includes two underground levels and three above-ground floors. It was designed by Alvaro Siza, a world-renowned architect from Portugal. MIZIUM was completed as a world-class, state-of-the-art research facility after five years of design and construction.

Concept
The core concepts of MIZIUM are ‘free communication’ and ‘harmony with nature.’ The research space is open at the front. A central courtyard and floor-to-ceiling windows maximize the inflow of natural light and promote smooth air circulation. MIZIUM is characterized by its nature- and human-friendly features, such as double-skin façades, high-efficiency equipment, eco-friendly materials, pilotis for comfort, and integrated artworks. MIZIUM serves as a creative research hub—offering researchers opportunities for self-realization and delivering new beauty to Amorepacific’s customers.
