ILLIYOON and Hello Kitty come together for a special collaboration. Hello Kitty, a nostalgic character beloved by many, remains a trendy mega IP among the MZ generation. In celebration of Hello Kitty’s 50th anniversary in 2024, the character is once again proving its popularity through collaborations across various fields, including fashion, beauty, lifestyle spaces, and hotels. As part of this project, ILLIYOON has teamed up with Hello Kitty to release a limited-edition set featuring ILLIYOON’s signature products: Ceramide Ato Lotion, Ceramide Ato Top-to-Toe Wash, and Fresh Moisture Scrub Wash. Each set includes a Hello Kitty-designed mini keyring pouch and hair sheet, enhancing both practicality and collectibility.
About Hello Kitty
Hello Kitty has been illustrated in various styles over the decades, but for this project, we adopted the widely familiar basic style of the 1980s.
Compared to the classic style of the 1970s, it features rounder shapes and thicker lines, creating a softer and cuter impression that blends naturally with ILLIYOON’s
minimal layout. In addition, we incorporated Hello Kitty’s signature element—the ribbon—throughout the design to create a friendlier impression
when ILLIYOON and Hello Kitty are presented together.
Design Concept
While maintaining ILLIYOON’s brand identity, we designed the layout so that Hello Kitty’s illustrations and color accents
blend in harmoniously. For the product label, we preserved the brand’s core layout while placing a Hello Kitty illustration at the top to draw visual attention. We boldly applied Hello Kitty’s signature red color behind the skin type text to further highlight the spirit of the collaboration. In the background, a check pattern was used to add a subtle sense of rhythm and enhance the harmony
between the character and ILLIYOON’s layout.
Color Matching
Character matching with color coordination was also a key design element.
For the Ceramide Ato line, whose main color is sky blue, we paired it with Hello Kitty dressed in blue to create harmony. For the Fresh Moisture line, in yellow, we featured Mimi wearing a yellow ribbon to blend naturally with the product. This approach not only highlighted the individuality of each product but also strengthened the connection with the Hello Kitty characters,
adding consistency and balance across the lines.
Package Design
We carefully considered various design elements to deliver a cohesive atmosphere and strong visual impact on display.
The top section of the gift sets was unified in Hello Kitty’s signature red to enhance consistency when grouped together on shelves. In addition, we applied die-cut outlines to the Hello Kitty illustrations to make the characters stand out more prominently, and incorporated colorful
block-style check patterns in the background to blend naturally with the product design.
Lifestyle Goods
This collaboration’s merchandise, designed to reflect the tastes of the MZ generation, consists of items that combine both style and practicality.
The mini keyring pouch incorporates the recent “bag decoration” trend popular in the fashion industry, adding Hello Kitty’s charm to enhance its collectible
value. The hair fixing sheets come in two designs—Hello Kitty’s face and her ribbon—bringing the story to life by recreating the actual ribbon worn by Hello
Kitty as a piece of merchandise, delivering a friendlier and more relatable touch. These easy-to-use items allow anyone to experience Hello Kitty’s charm
naturally in their everyday lives.
