Sulwhasoo Spa reopened on October 1, 2018, after relocating to the seventh floor from the third and fourth floors of Lotte Hotel Seoul.
The spa is decorated with selected artworks that inspire visitors to feel the philosophy and heritage of the Sulwhasoo brand. Major artworks once enjoyed by noblemen of the Joseon dynasty include the ten-panel folding screen titled “Royal Embroidered Plum Flowers” and an exquisite work of plum flowers made of beeswax titled “Yunhoemae (Samsara Plum Flowers)” as well as stunning ceramic works.
Concept
Due to the structural limitations of renovating existing hotel rooms, we devoted considerable time to studying spatial composition. The design of the Sulwhasoo Spa combines structural forms made of repetitive curves with warm, bright finishes to convey a modern sensibility while subtly evoking the refined elegance of Korean culture. Unprocessed materials such as stone, wood, silk, and embroidery are artfully combined in various ways, embedding the brand’s values of harmony and balance into the space.
The “Sulwhasoo Lantern,” crafted exclusively for the spa, serves to enhance the significance of the moments and memories experienced here. Greeting guests from the reception—the starting point of the spa—the lantern’s brightness changes along the customer journey from the Counseling Zone to the Spa Room and the Powder Room, creating a distinctive and memorable visual experience.
