The original <Arita Font Journey> featured a minimalist white cover with the Arita logo expressed through subtle debossing.
As the first edition nears sell-out, we sought to create a sharper and more memorable visual impact when displayed in bookstores, while also introducing a distinctive marketing element.
To achieve this, we planned to produce a newly designed cover, launching the “Arita Font Journey Re-cover Edition.”
Workflow
With the intention of actively utilizing generative AI, I designed the workflow to minimize personal bias and progress based purely on AI-driven outputs.
1. Use Midjourney’s /describe function to extract keywords from the Arita Font image.
2. Ask ChatGPT to recommend artists or designers suitable for each concept.
3. Submit the recommendations and keywords to Midjourney to generate visual outputs.
4. Develop the final cover design based on the generated visuals.
1.
Initially, I considered combining the synthesized image with the Arita font, but I realized it would be more engaging to express the essence of Arita abstractly rather than through direct compositing.
To do so, I used Midjourney’s /describe command to extract image keywords that represent how Midjourney interprets the visual identity of the Arita font.
2.
After extracting the keywords, I contemplated the conceptual direction to propose to a virtual artist.
I chose the theme of “Heaven, Earth, and Humanity,” reflecting the philosophical principle behind the creation of the Korean alphabet (Hangeul).
Then, I asked ChatGPT to recommend artists whose works best embody each of these elements — heaven, earth, and humanity.

3.
Based on the keywords extracted from Midjourney, I conducted several image-generation experiments by setting the visual style to match that of the artists recommended by ChatGPT.
4.
I then applied the generated images to the actual book cover design, adding artist-style signatures and design elements to evoke the feeling of a genuine collaboration with real artists, thereby completing the final design.
Cover Design Mockup
I generated results by entering prompts inspired by the styles of artists suggested by ChatGPT.
At first, I only considered painters, but ChatGPT expanded my perspective by recommending photographers such as Henri Cartier-Bresson, as well as land artists and pop art creators, allowing me to broaden the creative scope of the project.

Final Result
From the various generated outcomes, I selected the images that best aligned with
Arita’s brand identity and incorporated the actual text to complete the final cover design.
