Summary
Visual Objects Embodying Vegan and Eco-Friendly Values
We created objects that embody the values of the Amore Seongsu Brush and completed the corresponding product visuals.
The Amore Seongsu Brush features ash wood handles and premium vegan synthetic bristles, with all products certified as vegan.
It reflects a commitment to eco-friendly values.
Each brush was designed by professional artists to optimize its shape for specific facial areas, carrying the message:
“Find your most authentic beauty through Seongsu Brushes.” Our goal was to visually express these unique characteristics and values through the overall art direction and design.
Part 1. Creating Shooting Props Using Recycled Containers
Vegan-certified brushes are rare, and we wanted to highlight that distinction.
Building on the eco-friendly philosophy of the Amore Seongsu Vegan Brush, we aimed to infuse sustainability into the visual presentation as well.
At first, we considered incorporating natural elements such as plants to convey an eco-friendly mood.
However, since this approach is commonly used in product photography, we decided to take a different direction.
During product development and design, numerous plastic materials and sample prototypes are inevitably produced and often discarded.
This inspired the idea of repurposing these unused samples into artistic objects.
Additionally, product shoots frequently require purchasing single-use props, which contributes to waste.
By reinterpreting these easily consumed and discarded materials into creative visual objects, we sought to reduce waste and give new meaning to overlooked materials — turning what was once disposable into something beautiful and purposeful.
When designing new products, I primarily utilized pre-molded samples, color-tested containers, interior fixture samples, and leftover ribbons from packaging materials provided by partner manufacturers.
In addition, I incorporated foam padding used for container packaging and tape typically used for wrapping interior fixtures—repurposing the everyday materials surrounding the product development process.
Because these objects were created from discarded or surplus materials, it was important to ensure that they did not appear waste-like.
To achieve a refined and cohesive visual, I incorporated a single color accent into each object and made active use of ribbons and tape to enhance the structural integrity and aesthetic balance of the compositions.
To add visual richness and depth, I also experimented with a variety of materials—including plastic, metal, stone, and acrylic—creating a diverse and vibrant mix of textures and forms.
Part 2. Visual Creation Using Generative AI
Since each of the 15 brushes has a uniquely optimized form, I thought it would be interesting to create 15 corresponding objects, each reflecting the individuality of a specific brush.
Initially, I planned to produce all 15 objects manually, but upon Sangwoo’s suggestion, I decided to experiment with generative AI for part of the series.
By incorporating AI, we were able to reduce unnecessary material waste while exploring new methods of visual creation, which aligned perfectly with the project’s original intent.
The fusion of eco-friendly, vegan concepts with cutting-edge AI technology also felt particularly compelling.
Eco-conscious practices often emphasize analog and low-impact methods to minimize environmental harm amid advancing technology and worsening ecological issues.
In contrast, the idea of creating content through AI-generated imagery—a product of modern technology—felt ironically fresh yet conceptually meaningful.
Ultimately, we adopted a hybrid approach: crafting some objects directly from recycled materials, and generating others using AI, then compositing the two to form a cohesive visual narrative.
Initially, I generated images using prompts containing keywords such as “plastic” and “trash,” aligning with the project’s original concept.
However, just as I had initially worried when creating physical objects, the results appeared somewhat like real waste or visually distant from the crafted objects.
To refine the outcome, I conducted a second round using Midjourney’s Blend mode, combining two photographed images to create more cohesive visuals.
Among the generated outputs, I selected those that resembled plastic containers or items that could realistically be produced by our brand.
Additionally, I photographed a background under the same lighting and setup conditions as the original object shoot, then composited the generated AI images into this scene to maintain a consistent visual tone.
To further enhance versatility, I used Photoshop to upscale the images, adjust composition, and integrate them with separately photographed product shots, ultimately completing the final visual output.
It was a meaningful experience to extend the process beyond product development and connect it to visual content creation that reflects product characteristics.
Moreover, reinterpreting the same concept through a different approach and experimenting with generative AI as a new creative tool proved both exciting and insightful.
The fusion of uniquely designed, unconventional objects with AI-generated visuals blended harmoniously, allowing the results to be used confidently as final visuals.
The workflow established through this project demonstrated the potential of generative AI as a practical tool for future visual content creation.
