NEVER STOP PLANTING POP-UP
To mark Arbor Day, a time when plants reawaken, we held a collaborative
exhibition with fellow plant lovers under the theme, ‘Never Stop Planting,
Live with City Plants.’ The exhibition highlighted plants thriving harmoniously
in three of Amore Seongsu’s distinct spaces and also showcased a new line of
gardening merchandise developed through our ‘Creative Partners’ program.

PLANTING MAKES A STORY
This exhibition aimed to introduce the culture of urban plant
life, highlighting the ‘companion plant’ trend and featuring
rare and beloved species like Agave and caudex plants.
The first area served as an introduction, designed to immediately
capture attention with a dedicated zone for large specimens of
Agave titanota ‘White Whale’ and Pachypodium gracilius.
Nearby, a ‘Planting’ space was styled with an Operculicarya
pachypus and Agave utahensis displayed on industrial palettes.

Unlike a painting, a plant doesn’t have a distinct front or back;
its charm changes from every angle. To allow visitors to appreciate
this multi-faceted beauty, large mirrors were placed behind the arrangements.
Caudex-forming plants survive in harsh environments by storing water in
their swollen stems. In the large Pachypodium gracilius specimen pictured,
most of the area visible below the leaves is a reservoir of water.

PLANTS IN THE INDUSTRIALIZED CITY
Amore Seongsu was originally an auto repair shop, and its renovation preserved
the rough-finished walls and the building’s raw framework. To honor this industrial
concept, we created fixtures from rough-textured scaffolding pipes. We then arranged
seven different species from the Agave and Pachypodium genera among these fixtures,
creating a ‘plant meditation’ space that harmonized with the store’s unique character.
Set against the backdrop of the Seongsu Garden’s Jeju Island foliage, this area
offered visitors a unique opportunity to get up close with rare agave and caudex
plants, each one styled to be admired like a work of art.

“Plant gazing allows you to temporarily
forget everything and calm your mind.”

At night, the plants were illuminated by grow lights, revealing a charm
completely different from their daytime appearance. The simple act of
observing them is said to relieve stress, reduce fatigue, and activate
the brain—an experience known as the ‘green effect.’

PLANTS LOVER’S ROOM
Using merchandise developed through our ‘Creative Partners’ program and
custom, plant-focused furniture from our Archiving team, we styled a space
to resemble an actual plant enthusiast’s room. Many people in the plant community
have a dedicated space like this in their homes. We thought that creating a
‘Plant Lover’s Room’ would be a great way to introduce this culture to newcomers
and satisfy their curiosity about the hobby.
