The innisfree Store Made of Empty Bottles in Sogyeok-dong, designed under the concept of “Beauty in the Bottle,” aims to express the virtuous cycle of upcycling by showcasing the process of transformation—containing beauty within reused innisfree bottles, furniture, and other objects. Approximately 70% of the store’s finishing materials are made from used empty bottles.
Concept
Key features of the Sogyeok-dong innisfree store include its unique location and the architectural beauty of the building itself. The original wooden ceiling of the 80-year-old hanok creates a sense of openness. Customers can also experience upcycling firsthand, as the finishing materials are made from collected empty bottles. The store actively promotes the “Used Bottle Collection Campaign” through a real-time monitor that displays the number of bottles collected by customers. An art wall made entirely of empty bottles—created in collaboration with Fabrikr—highlights the artistic rebirth of objects, including flower vases crafted from used cosmetic containers.
During roof waterproofing work, innisfree temporarily removed the tiles, revealing a clear view of the sky and neighboring rooftops. Sunlight streamed in, illuminating the aquatic plants inside the store. Inspired by this moment, innisfree chose to finish the ceiling with glass, creating a serene, nature-filled space where customers can enjoy a slice of the outdoors.
