In November 2023, the visuals and detailed pages of the LABO-H Perfume line were redeveloped to better communicate the Perfume line’s identity while aligning with the brand’s universe.
To connect Labo-H’s scientific, functional, young, and smart image with the emotional intangible value of scent, we told a specific story, “Biotechnologist’s Scent Collection Research Notes,”
and incorporated it into visuals, detail pages, and graphic assets.
Background
The previous LABO-H perfume line was designed to convey scent and emotion through a delicate, elegant tone and the prominent use of raw ingredients in its visuals.
However, beginning in the second half of 2023, LABO-H’s broader brand direction shifted away from a serious, mature tone toward a more whimsical and youthful vibe,
centered on the keyword “the genius rookie of scalp science.” Consequently, the perfume line needed to evolve to more clearly reflect this new brand identity.
Therefore, while retaining the emotional focus on raw ingredients, we developed new visuals and graphic assets that clearly highlighted the LABO-H “researcher”
concept and applied them to the product detail pages.
Concept
To bridge the gap between the rational, function-oriented LABO-H brand and the emotional value of fragrance, we proposed the “Biotechnologist’s Scent Collection Notebook” concept.
To express this “rational sensibility” artistically, our visuals prominently featured natural raw ingredients juxtaposed with props and graphic elements that evoked a scientific feel.
We aimed to capture the beauty of the ingredients and products from the objective, balanced perspective of a scientist—observing them with clarity and precision, as if through a magnifying glass.
By arranging scientific tools alongside flowers and aromatic raw materials, we sought to convey the unique and inventive sensibility of LABO-H with the aesthetic of installation art.
For the product detail pages, we closely followed the “scientist’s research notes” theme.
To achieve this, we incorporated a variety of graphic elements, including handwritten notes, scientific formulas, graphs, and imagery reminiscent of a computer interface.
To ensure brand consistency, specific UI elements—such as PC screens, folders, and grid layouts—were adapted from the visual language of LABO-H’s main scalp care line.
These familiar assets were then reinterpreted to align with the unique aesthetic of the perfume collection.
Our goal was to fully convey the richness of the fragrance by using a diverse and abundant array of raw ingredients, while simultaneously maintaining a rational, scientific perspective.
To capture this researcher’s point of view in the photography, we utilized sharp, neutral-toned lighting that intentionally avoids overt emotion, paired with direct and straightforward compositions.
We applied this same photographic approach to the model shots, prominently featuring the raw ingredients as props to help users intuitively imagine the scent they will experience when using the product.
COLOR
The overall color theme for the product detail pages was primarily monochromatic to create a rational aesthetic, with warm gray used as the main color to add a touch of emotion.
To evoke the fragrance, the natural colors of the raw ingredients are presented vividly in the visuals. Additionally, specific accent colors representing each of the two scents were used in the backgrounds.
LABO-H’s signature green was intentionally toned down, appearing darker to fit the new mood.
