The “Shape of Ritual” is one of the merchandise items from the “Puzzlewood Dreamy plants Exhibition”, which is a ceramic objet with multiple functions such as a gua sha and an incense holder.
This objet was born out of an idea proposed as an internship project at the Creative Center and developed through numerous meetings, design developments, and tests to create an objet encapsulating rituals.
Puzzlewood centers its concept on the fragrance of rest and respite, sharing a message about the importance of taking time to unwind.
The goods offered by the Puzzlewood brand are carefully curated to echo this message of relaxation, with an emphasis on aesthetics, and are designed to function symbiotically with the products, enhancing usability.
These goods are conceived and crafted with the intent of not only reinforcing the brand’s narrative but also providing utility that complements the overall Puzzlewood experience.
▲ The ideation stage of the Puzzlewood “Handy Gua Sha,” which was the result of the 2023 internship project.
Focusing on two key points—’a design that combines the functions of a gua sha and an incense holder’ and ‘a handheld size design for ease of portability’—we went through the process of sketching,
soft modeling, and 3D printing to propose the final design.

The internship results were well-received internally and were deemed to align well with Puzzlewood, a brand that emphasizes the importance of rest, leading to the product being selected as an official item for the subsequent “Dreaming Plants” exhibition. It was also given the name “Shape of Ritual.”
When production was decided, we believed that the intern designer who had proposed the idea for the product would understand it best, so we entrusted her with the design development and production. She excelled in her role as an intern designer and also carried out the work as “Artist Kim Min-jung” with great skill.
Despite the challenges of working with clay, a material that is highly sensitive to change and has many variables, the artist completed the production of all products entirely by hand. I would like to express my gratitude.
“Shape of Ritual” evolved into a softer, more organic form during the productization process.
Made using domestic raw materials and glaze, the object is fired three times at temperatures exceeding 1,200 degrees Celsius in a kiln, with every step of the process crafted by hand until the final piece is complete.
The unique charm of “Shape of Ritual”
Puzzlewood’s distinctive brand experience
Puzzlewood Ceramic Craft Object_Shape of Ritual is a ceramic craft object with a soft, organic form and a delicate white glow.
The moment the soft modeling transforms into the final product through prototyping.
As the designer, the most exciting moment is undoubtedly when the product is fully packaged and safely secured in the package design.
This product is made in small quantities, with all packaging done by hand by the designer, making it even more meaningful.
We used a blue ribbon as a focal point to secure the product and tie it in a knot, enhancing the white color of the ceramic and making it appear even brighter and more vibrant.
Additionally, the package label includes a graphic representation of the product’s components, allowing customers to see what’s inside the box from the outside.
For product visual photography, we focused on capturing the product as an interior object, a hand massage tool, and an incense holder, rather than limiting it to a specific purpose,
to convey the diverse and beneficial uses in everyday life through various arrangements.
We hope this object brings new inspiration to customers through its visual, tactile, and olfactory experiences.
